Dubai, home to 3.3 million residents, features the major district of Deira in its eastern region—a bustling center of trade activities. The core mission of this comprehensive design studio was to design an urban market in Deira. This market was envisioned as a platform to honor food culture and enhance access to top-quality produce through innovative architectural solutions. The project’s primary goals encompassed meeting urban needs while placing a strong emphasis on sustainability and climate resilience.
This two-story concept features the primary market space on the ground level, with additional programs such as communal kitchens, restaurants, administrative offices, and service spaces
located on the upper floor. Given its strategic location, the design prioritized the incorporation of ample parking and easy accessibility.
The site enjoys approximately 14 hours of daily sunlight and benefits from prevailing winds from the creek. To harness these climatic advantages, the market relies solely on natural ventilation systems, inspired by the local wind tower typology. The structural design, choice of materials, and overall architectural layout play pivotal roles in optimizing airflow within the space.
